If you’ve been rolling with Dice Envy for any amount of time (first off, thank you, we’re honored), then you know we’re no stranger to running Kickstarters. We’ve run three Kickstarter campaigns over the years and have loved every opportunity to create new products that bring joy to millions across the globe! Ok, maybe thousands, but like, tens of thousands.
Let’s Rewind
What is Kickstarter, you ask? Great question.
Imagine, a company (much like us) has an amazing idea for a product. Say, self-plunging toilets (because why are we still doing that when people have walked on the moon). Running a Kickstarter campaign allows the company to pitch its idea to the general public. Anyone (that’s you) who has good sense, some money (that’s important), and sees the value of the vision can contribute financially to the manufacturing of said product and help bring it to life. Not unlike Dr. Frankenstein.
Once the product is funded and produced, the supporters then get to purchase it at a lower price than the general public. Not only do supporters get early access, but sometimes they even get to collaborate with the hosts of the Kickstarter, throwing in their ideas to create a community-influenced product loved by producer (us) and consumer (you) alike.
Ok, full disclosure, self-plunging toilets already exist. I looked it up. Don’t do it. It gets gross.
Joining the Cause
With that refresher on Kickstarters done, it’s time for you to jump in. Whether this is your first time joining us on a Kickstarter campaign – second, third, or fourth – you can bring your ideas and support to the table and help us create beloved (dare we say, enviable) dice sets.
Just head on over to a campaign and click Subscribe – no, sorry, we mean – Back this project and follow the steps to back the campaign.
The Waiting Game
When you commit to a pledge to back a project, it is a show of support and a promise of payment, but you won't be charged right away. Your payment method will be run at the end of the project’s duration. In the meantime, you can adjust your pledge to better fit your interests (or budget), and many projects have ‘add-ons’ - additional products or rewards that can be shipped alongside the main pledge's reward.
Pledged funding for a Kickstarter is all-or-nothing. You won't be charged for a pledge towards a project unless it reaches its funding goal. This way, companies know they will have the funds necessary to produce the sweet, sweet dice, (or toilet plunger) they've promised.
Aftermath
If the project is successfully funded, the company reaches out to each backer via email to clarify very important information (think shipping addresses) and provide a timeline for fulfillment. You'll likely be given the opportunity to add to your order (why not) and make any applicable special requests. At that point, your only job is to sit tight and get hype while we get awesome stuff made and send it to you as quickly as we can!
We are so excited to continue to partner with you and bring the gaming community one-of-a-kind products. Join us, friend! And let’s make dice that will go down in history...within the gaming community...among those who play TTRPGs.
History! Huzzah!
