Holidays in Faerûn

Star Wars Day, Cinco de Mayo, Mother's Day, National Barbecue Day... after back-to-back reasons to celebrate hitting us hard this month, we're left wondering: Do our PCs have to put up with this high-paced level of reveling?

Yes, it turns out.

If you're unsure about what to get your party members this Caravance, take a gander at our Faerûn holiday round-up / gift guide:

Auril's Blesstide - Dawn of the First Frost

Each year, as the first flecks of frost kiss the fields, griffon-riders blow their horns, aiming to appease the Frostmaiden for a mild winter.

Also known as Auril's Day, Waterdeep's inhabitants celebrate by donning white attire, refraining from warm food, and halting street vending. A few brave persons engage in the "Cliffs Run," a footrace from Cliffwatch to Seas' Edge Beach, where they plunge into icy waters. If you're friends with one of these bold souls, a handmade quilt will be a welcome gift (just make sure you present it indoors, away from Auril's jealous gaze).

Fey Day - Ches 19

Taking place on the Spring Equinox, Fey Day is held in Waterdeep and the surrounding countryside. It celebrates the ever-weakening barrier between the Prime Material plane and the Feywild.

The best part of Fey Day is dressing up in extravagant costumes and masquerading in the streets and in the homes of nobility, so a disguise kit makes the perfect gift for the tireless performer in your life.

Many regard celebrating Fey Day as asking for trouble, so make sure your gift-ee is open to the idea before you spend precious gold on them.

Waukeentide - Tarsakh 1-10

An entire tenday of celebration dedicated to The Merchant's Friend, goddess Waukeen! Now that's a party.

You'll find plenty of gifts available at the bazaars, so our best advice for this holiday is: be a good friend, keep your coin purse close, and bring extra waterskins to help keep you and your party hydrated.

Day of Love - Mirtul 25

A Zakharan holiday, the Day of Love is traditionally a day for marriage to be proposed or love to be declared.

Celebrated in Huzuz, the City of Delights, it's no wonder that exotic honeys are often seen in the baskets of would-be wooers, and we suggest you follow suit.

Dragondown - Kythorn 20

Observed in Waterdeep, Dragondown honors the city's triumphs over the numerous dragon encounters across its history. The day features reenactments of heroic battles, parades, and bonfires symbolizing Waterdeep's ability to resist the draconic scourge.

A fine time to invest in your friends and family, we suggest adding a little dragon fire to their bellies with a well-aged liquor, or helping them to cool off with some custom cut whiskey stones.

Summer Assembly - Midsummer

Held in the Plain of Horses, it stands apart as one of the region's more celebrated holidays amidst a limited roster of formal festivities.

Plainsmen families and tribes descend upon the valleys to deliberate on matters, exchange news, and indulge in gossip, fostering community bonds over several days of gatherings.

There's a lot of horse talk at this thing, so if someone you know is celebrating, a scroll of animal friendship can really go a long way.

Ahghairon's Day - Eleasis 1

Held in Waterdeep, this holiday is dedicated to honoring the city's inaugural Lord, Ahghairon.

During the festivities, the Open Lord embarks on a tour of local taverns, warmly engaging with the city's inhabitants. Violets are the traditional offering of Ahghairon's Day, but you'll surely catch the Open Lord's eye with a pot of violet jelly.

Now that you're fully equipped to make your companions feel special during the upcoming holidays, it's time to embrace the spirit of generosity and get yourself over to the local outfitters!
